How CNN, BBC, Times, Reuters, & UK's papers are Killing Nigeria

This breaks my heart. I'm truly disgusted to be writing this piece. I have been waiting to see the reaction from foreign leaders and press. Like always the media isn't reporting on it, which is shameful. They spent so much time on Malala and Nigeria's anti-gay laws, but not on this.
How CNN, BBC, Times, Reuters, & UK's papers are Killing Nigeria

Why ISN'T the same treatment and concern shown for these 40 students that were shot and burnt to death by Boko Haram? Where is the outrage and help? Who's fighting for these families besides the families and Nigerian government? Why are CNN, BBC, Times, Reuters, Washington Post, USA Today, UK's leading papers, Aljazeera and co reporting this senseless massacre days after and without intervention? I don't get it. They are so quick to report news on corruption and the negatives about our country but not offering to help. And please stop being stupid calling Nigerians people with backward mindset. Do we need help, YES. It's clearly visible this is an act of terrorism. People leaving in fear. Parents can't send their children to school in this conditions.

If these media/press are not going to help Nigeria, they should simply shut it up. I don't want to read any other headlines about Nigeria's anti-gay law in Times, New York Times, Forbes, CNN, BBC and the rest. It doesn't make sense.

When Malala Yousafzai was shot, 5 million men, women and children signed petitions calling for every girl in Pakistan to have the chance to go school.

But this week the world remained silent when 40 schoolchildren were shot and then burnt to death in a school in north east Nigeria. The incident was nothing less than a massacre of the innocents. The US Secretary of State wordily calls it "unspeakable acts of terror."

It is time the world came to the aid of Nigeria. To make make schools safe for children and millions of student in getting an education.

Nigeria has more than 10 million children out of school, the worst record in the world.

Cape Town or Lagos: where is Africa’s fashion capital?

Cape Town or Lagos: where is Africa’s fashion capital?
The Language Monitor releases a yearly list of the world’s fashion capitals. This year it put New York at the top, with London dropping to second place. Johannesburg, which last year ranked 18th, this year dropped significantly to 37th. Cape Town on the other hand, rose 27 places to 27th position. The cities are the only two on the African continent to make it on the list, despite Lagos, Nigeria’s well-publicised attempt at being seen as the continent’s fashion capital. In hindsight, according to this body, Cape Town is the hub of the African continent’s fashion industry.
Lagos Africa fashion capital

The Language Monitor compiles its list by scouring traditional and social media sources throughout the year. This includes reputable news media publications, magazines, blogs and even Twitter, to see what conversations people are having about fashion. The mention of a particular city in the fashion context is what determines how highly the city ranks. In essence, the more people have to say about Lagos, Nigeria and its fashion industry and style in general, the more it is likely going to rise above Cape Town. The debate as Africa's Top Global Fashion started after South Africans echoed their opinion about the latest ranking. To them Johannesburg is Africa's fashion capital. Not Cape Town. But that is not true, I believe Lagos is ever rising and deserves a place with its designers and latest ankara fashion.

“We think the figures are probably quite skewed,” Klûk says. “It’s great to know that Cape Town has achieved this status, particularly because our design office is there, but as designers, we definitely have to think national and even continental to keep up with buying trends.

“We also believe Nigerian designers are strong contenders, their fashion aesthetic is more international than ours.” - Sunday Independent

Mr. Sanusi has asked the court to prevent President Jonathan, the Federal Attorney General and Inspector General of Police to give effect to his dismissal until the court verdict. Man With Cancer Makes His Wife's Dreams Come True

In April 2013, the 26-year-old Chris Price from Wales didn't waste any time before proposing to his girlfriend, Ceri.

Shortly after their August 2013 wedding, Price took Ceri and her four children to Disneyland Paris, where they had the "most magical time," according to WalesOnline. A few weeks later, they were off to New York City for a romantic getaway.

"If my love could have saved him, he would have lived forever," Ceri, 29, told the outlet. "We packed so much into the short time we had together."

Price just wanted to make his wife as happy as possible.

He died in Ceri's arms last month, and his funeral was held in the same churchwhere the couple wed, according to WalesOnline.

"His illness made him live completely in the moment and he taught me to do the same," Ceri told BBC News.

Boko Haram kills 29 Students in a Boarding School

Boko Haram kills 29 Students in a Boarding School

Islamist group Boko Haram stormed a boarding secondary school in Nigeria overnight and killed 29 pupils, police and the military said on Tuesday. This is unacceptable. Such a terrible news to the families and bright students we lost today. This has got to stop. The Nigerian government must act now to put an end to this.

"Some of the students' bodies were burned to ashes," Police Commissioner Sanusi Rufai said of the attack on the Federal Government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state in the country's northeast.

At one hostel "students were trying to climb out of the windows and they were slaughtered like sheep by the terrorists who slit their throats. Others who ran were gunned down", Mr Garba said.

Students who could not escape were burned alive, he added. All those killed were boys. No girls were touched, Rufai said.

Boko Haram, whose struggle for an Islamic state in northern Nigeria has killed thousands, are increasingly preying on the civilian population.

Lupita Nyong'O the Actress who should win an Oscar

Lupita Nyong'O the Actress who should win an Oscar
Lupita Nyong’o, From Unknown African woman  to ‘Oscar nominee and Hollywood favorite Girl in Less Than a Year. The unknown Kenyan actress at the time shut to fame after she played Patsey in the move 12 years a slave.
Lupita Nyong'O the Actress

According to NYmag Lupita attended an all-girls school, playing many sports poorly (“Soccer, hockey, rounders, netball, touch rugby—they could do without me, to put it mildly”), watching American television (“Step by Step, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Full House—I watched a lot of sitcoms, as you can tell”), and acting in school plays, the first of which was Oliver Twist. “I was a passerby. I had five words: ‘Coming down the street, there.’ That was it. But I had a backstory for my character. I decided I was going to be a man, so I borrowed my brother’s suit, my dad’s briefcase. I don’t know why I decided to be a man—I think it was more interesting.” At age 14, she auditioned for Kenya’s national repertory theater, Phoenix Players, and was cast as Juliet. At Hampshire College, which she attended because “it’s a matter of course for Kenyans in middle-class families to study abroad,” she says she was not yet “in a position to admit I wanted to be an actor, but I knew that I wanted to be involved in that world. America was a good place to go.”

Nonetheless, her first months in America were a shock. “I thrive on structure,” she says. “I find my freedom in structure. It was very hard to adjust to an individualistic and very liberal system. I mean, my upbringing, I would iron my clothes every night. I would plan what I wore the night before, and then I would iron it. That’s just the way my mom raised us. Then I got to Hampshire, where clothing is sometimes optional and all this kind of thing. I was mortified.” She raises a perfectly arched brow and cuts into her sandwich with a knife and fork.

ONE Campaign presents African Artists United for Agriculture

ONE Campaign presents African Artists United for Agriculture

The ONE Campaign Do Agric It Pays is bringing together 22 of Africa’s most popular urban music stars in Johannesburg this week for agriculture.

Africa’s top artists will be using their voices this week to record the biggest music video collaboration on the continent in support of ONE’s campaign aimed at pushing African leaders to adopt better policies that will help revolutionize and modernize African agriculture to make it more prosperous for both citizens and nations.

Participating artists include: D’banj (Nigeria), Buffalo Souljah (Zimbabwe), Judith Sephuma (South Africa), Vusi Nova (South Africa), Liz Ogumbu (Kenya), Nancy G (Swaziland), Dama Do Bing (Mozambique), Diamond (Tanzania), Femi Kuti (Nigeria), Rachid Taha (Algeria), Juliani (Kenya), Omawumi (Nigeria), Tiken Jah Fakoly (Cote d’Ivoire), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Kunle Ayo (Nigeria), Krotal (Cameroon), Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Mo Molemi (South Africa), Ambwene Allen Yessayah (Tanzania), and Dontom (Nigeria).

The music video, entitled ‘cocoa na chocolate’ is scheduled for release in March 2014 by ONE. This collaboration was co-produced by Cobhams Asuquo and DeeVee of DB Records; Asuquo, of ‘Jailer’ and ‘Fire on the Mountain’ fame, is the executive producer. African visual maestro Godfather Productions has produced Africa’s top hits and is directing the music video.

“Do Agric, It Pays pressures political leaders to invest in our farmers, our food and our future, by adopting smart, effective policies aimed at boosting productivity, increasing incomes and helping lift tens of millions of Africans out of extreme poverty,” said ONE Africa Director, Dr Sipho S. Moyo welcoming the artists to South Africa. “According to FAO, agricultural growth is 11 times more effective at reducing poverty than growth in other sectors including mining.

“This campaign seeks to change the face of agriculture from low profit, traditional agriculture, to a high tech and high value chain industry. This brilliant team of African artists is helping to spread this message, particularly to our youth using their social media platforms. Seen as role models and being connected to the youth, these artists represent a powerful influence when it comes to highlighting and addressing the issues shaping the future of our youth.”

“When we were young, the farm was where your parents sent you when you behaved badly,” said D’banj, who is leading the other artists on the project. “Today, we have seen that agriculture is actually a cool thing that can bring our youth the jobs they need. The richest dude in Africa is a farmer who invests in agri-business: Dangote. We are coming together to tell African youth that agriculture is that thing you see when you switch on MTV, Channel O, Trace. Agriculture is what we need to escape poverty and create business empires. Doing agriculture pays, for individuals and nations.”

“We have the best of African talent with us here in Johannesburg – from the singers and their music to the video producers on this project, the energy among them is amazing,” added Moyo. “Agriculture is potentially the single most important source of inclusive growth in Africa, and it deserves the attention of our leaders as well. These artists are collaborating to communicate to their fans, the youth, that agriculture is the biggest prospect for economic development and job creation.”

The collaboration is part of ONE’s Do Agric, It Pays campaign, launched on 29 January in Addis Ababa with civil society partners including the Pan African Farmers Association (PAFO), ActionAid International, Acord International, Oxfam, East and Southern African Farmers Forum, ROPPA, Southern African Confederation of Agriculture Unions, the Africa Union Commission, Becho Welisho and the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

Sanusi Removal's Impact Detailed In Nigeria

Sanusi Removal's Impact Detailed In Nigeria

Nigeria's naira fell 1 percent to 166.35 against the U.S. dollar in volatile trading, a day after President Goodluck Jonathan suspended its outspoken Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi.

The naira opened at 164.90 to the greenback, traded for a short-period and rose to 169 before it shut down, dealers said. It is the biggest one-day swing since a December 2009 devaluation

Osaseye blog will attempt to detail the impact of Sanusi's removal on the economy for the next series of post up until 3 months. A good tree is made known by the fruit it bears.

The Central Bank governor who exposed billions of missing petrodollars has now lost his job after months of the much talked about suspension, earlier resignation or a possible sack.

President Goodluck Jonathan accused the respected and highly educated Lamido Sanusi of "financial recklessness and misconduct."

The West African nation's naira currency immediately weakened in response.

Last year Sanusi reported that $50 billion worth of oil sold by the state's Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. had not been paid to the government. The Senate Committee on Finance last week ordered an independent forensic audit into the missing money, now said to amount to about $20 billion.

The chambers of the House of Representatives was charged yesterday over the decision of the president, Goodluck Jonathan, to suspend the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
While some members of the House declared the move as illegal and unconstitutional, others were of the view that it was in order.
‎ Minority whip of the House, Hon Samson Osagie (APC, Edo) had brought the suspension matter before the members during plenary under Matters of Urgent National Interest where he described the suspension as “illegal” and “unconstitutional.”

Citing CBN Act 2007 as amended, the lawmaker queried the power of the president to take such a decision as the law does not provide for the president or any body to suspend the governor of the CBN.

“Only Section 11(7) of thenAct gives the President powers to remove the CBN governor subject to the approval of two-third majority of the Senate”‎, he noted.

"We condemn the suspension, because the President under the Constitution does not even have the right to depose the central bank chief. Only the National Assembly is authorized to do so," Musa, Chairman of an anti-corruption agency said in an interview.

Has the President gone too far? Has he made a reckless decision to fire one of Nigeria's best?

Lace Underwear banned in Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia

Lacy Panties banned in Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia

Definitely encroaching on peoples freedoms. A trade ban on lacy lingerie has Russian women cursing at the government. The ban will outlaw any underwear containing less than 6 percent cotton from being imported, made, or sold in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
lace underwear to be 'banned'

On Sunday, 30 women protesters in Kazakhstan were arrested and thrown into police vans while wearing lace underwear on their heads and shouting "Freedom to panties!"

The ban in those three countries was first outlined in 2010 by the Eurasian Economic Commission, which regulates the customs union, and it won't go into effect until July 1.

"As a rule, lacy underwear ... is literally snatched off the shelves," said Alisa Sapardiyeva, the manager of a lingerie store in Moscow, DD-Shop, as she flicked through her colorful wares. "If you take that away again, the buyer is going to be the one who suffers the most."

According to the Russian Textile Businesses Union, more than $4 billion worth of underwear is sold in Russia annually, and 80 percent of the goods sold are foreign made. Analysts have estimated that 90 percent of products would disappear from shelves, if the ban goes into effect this summer as planned.

The Eurasian Economic Commission declined to comment Monday, saying it was preparing to issue a statement about the underwear ban.

While consumer outrage may force customs union officials to compromise, many see the underwear ban as yet another example of the misguided economic policies that have become a trademark of many post-Soviet countries.

Sunday's panty protest in Kazakhstan followed a larger demonstration the day before against a 19 percent devaluation of the country's currency, the tenge.

Other people laughed off the panty ban, seeing it as yet another attempt to add regulations and controls to an already byzantine bureaucracy in the three countries.

"I think (the girls)... will still have the opportunity to wear it (synthetic underwear) whether you can buy it in Russia or not," said 22-year-old Muscovite Trifon Gadzhikasimov, noting that most of his friends travel abroad regularly. "I think this is just another silly law that shows the ineffectiveness of our government."

Lagos outdoor smoking ban begins

Lagos outdoor smoking ban begins

Smokers in Lagos looking to light up most of the public places will not be able to without paying a price  after Governor Fashola signed a bill at the Lagos House, Ikeja, that would further strengthen the State Government’s commitment towards protecting lives of the citizens.

According to the law, people who smoke in public places will risk a three year jail term.

The bill prohibits smoking in areas designated as non-smoking areas, including museums, public toilets, library, nurseries, day care centers and any facility used for the care of infants.

The law also mandates owners of public places to place signs with the inscription; ‘No Smoking’ or symbols as part of enlightenment for smokers and would-be violators of the law.

While anyone who smokes in the presence of a child shall be liable on conviction to a fine of 15, 000 Naira or 1 month imprisonment.

Nigeria wants dialogue, free and fair elections

Nigeria wants dialogue, free and fair elections

The position of the US government in regards to next year's presidential election was made known by the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, in Abuja.

She expressed hope that her government’s continued electoral assistance and dialogue would give the needed support to the Nigerian citizens who, she said, deserved elections that would reflect their will. The general election has been scheduled for valentine's day February 14, 2015.

“We also have confidence that in 2015, elections in every polling unit in the country will be safe,” she said, while urging the electorate to hold politicians, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the media, judiciary and security agencies accountable for free and fair elections.
The Assistant Secretary of State, who was visiting the country for the third time since her appointment last year, recalled that in the run-up to Nigeria’s 2011 elections, the US and the United Kingdom (UK) contributed $31.3 million to strengthen the electoral management body and the civil society groups.

“We are proud to support the great electoral success you achieved as a nation and as a people. We stand with the Nigerian people who say loudly that they will not accept electoral tampering, overheated rhetoric, vote selling or buying and violence.

“I have heard my Nigerian friends say repeatedly that anyone who engages in such elections chicanery should be held accountable and they are right. I encourage Nigeria’s National Assembly to pass a legislation that will establish electoral offences tribunals, a legislation that President Goodluck Jonathan proposed when he was vice president.

“We hope that our continued electoral assistance will give the utmost support to the Nigerian people because they deserve nothing less than elections that reflect their will,” she said.

In Nigeria, Nigerians wants a free and fair election next year. What are the challenges to free and fair elections in Nigeria?

Are Pastors Part of the Nigerian shadow government

Are Pastors Part of the Nigerian shadow government

Nigerian Pastors Part of the government
Nigerian pastors are known for their part in shadow government. They tend to form a formidable force or form of agreement in the dark with the politicians and then preach the message on the altar. "The righteous is a guide to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked cause them to err." Proverbs 12:26 Rightly put, that some of these pastors are responsible in part to the corruption of our great country.

Most popular Nigerian pastors have been associated with current and past leaders of the country. They are helpers during election times: a guide to reach out to the congregation. To convince the public to get the votes out. Some of them are no different from the real politician. They are bribed, blackmailed and appear clueless when approached with such subject matter.

Noted speaker W Clement Stone warned that 'Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them.'

It is sad that you hardly see or hear any of these pastors condemn a bad leader. They know some of the leaders are corrupt. In fact, they are friends in the dark. They form part of the shadow government to run the affairs of the country.

Valentine's Day of flowers! Roses! Love!

Valentine's Day of flowers!

happy valentine day

The days go back to Bishop Valentine of Terni, allegedly on 14 February was 269 executed for his Christian faith. Previously, he had despite imperial ban married couples and gave them flowers.

In ancient Rome, was commemorated on 14 February, the goddess Juno, who was considered a protectress of marriage and family. Even then, women were given flowers. Today, on Valentine's Day flowers are more wasted than on any other day. Did I say wasted, lol

This year, The Flower Market in America sold less because of the snow and storm. In Nigeria, not all the women are into flowers.

Osaseye wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day
